Yardley is a British Company first established by the Cleaver family in 1770 and is one of the oldest firms in the world to specialise in cosmetics and fragrances. The company changed its name after the it was purchased by William Yardley, in 1823, from the sons of the founder Samuel Cleaver, who had gone into bankruptcy. They were a major producer of soap and perfumery by the beginning of the 20th century. In 1921 Yardley received its first Royal Warrant and now holds two Royal Warrant, a sign of extreme quality. This gilt compact has an Art Deco feel to the design, with a black enamelled lead surrounded by white dots. The compact also has a lipstick attached which also works the closure. Measures 5.2x7cm. As you can see, there is a little dis-colouration to the gilding around the leaf. I would not recommend using any of the cosmetics.
