The Victorian age brought in a new fashion of mourning jewellery, for those who could afford it, bought Whitby jet however, less expensive materials were used, such as French jet, Vauxhall glass and bog oak.  Here we have a lovely example of bog oak, which has been carved into a full wheat sheaf.  Measures 4.5x3.2cm.  The brooch is overall very good condition but there are a couple of chips on the back, also the tip of the lowest ear  of wheat on the right has lost it’s tip.
