In the thirties and forties it was popular to wear dress clips on either side of a sweetheart neckline, therefore the jewellers of the time created the duette clip mate or metamorphic brooch.  This style of brooch comes apart to make two dress clips. The dress clips are hinged, they slip through a metal frame, which supports the pin, and click into place creating a whole brooch.  This one is quite unusual in that it is set with marcasite stones rather than pastes.  The open worked design looks rather like a throwback to the Renaissance period. The brooch has been rhodium plated.  Measures 6.2x2.6cm
