Following the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria went into a self imposed mourning for the remainder of her life, as a result jet jewellery became highly popular.  Jet was expensive therefore the Victorians had to find other less expensive materials to make the mourning jewellery.  This sweet this pin has seven pretty flowers which are made of carved/moulded black glass, with gold tone stems.  I think this pin was designed to be worn at the throat, on a high necked gown.  It is remarkable that after all this time these little flowers have no chips or cracks.  Measures 3.3x2.3cm
